Meewasin Valley Centre worked together with the school boards in the area to develop a curriculum-based learning opportunity for Grade 3 students. Topics of the 2-hour program include:
- Founding of Saskatoon
- Pioneers
- South Saskatchewan River
- Boom Years 1908-1913
- The Present City

Hints for Teachers
- Please plan to attend the inservices offered by MVC. These will help you make the most of your visit.
- Bring at least one adult with you to the program.
- Share bussing costs with another Grade 3 teacher in your school. While one class is visiting the MVC, the other class goes on a teacher-guided walking tour. Meet in the park for lunch and swap places in the afternoon.
- Please have your students wear nametags.
- Explore the Edu-Kit as much as you can. Plan to use the "Countdown" in your classroom, even if time is short.
- Ask questions of your interpreter. If there is something the interpreter doesn't know, we will find the answer for you!
- Enjoy your visit!!!
Activities
Grade 3 classes that will be visiting the Meewasin Valley Centre are supplied with an Edu-Kit to help them prepare for their visit. There are a variety of activities and props in the Edu-Kit that teachers are encouraged to share with their classes. As time progresses, Meewasin Valley Centre will post these activities to this site, along with supplementary material.
Bookings
If your Grade 3 class would like to book a visit to Meewasin Valley Centre, please contact the Meewasin Valley Centre at 665.6887. Bookings are on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Group size is limited to 30 students.
- Saskatoon Catholic Schools - all classrooms with Grade 3 students may book a visit. Program fees are paid for by the Catholic School board. Transportation is the responsibility of the school.
- Saskatoon Board of Education - split classes may book if they are the only such class containing Grade 3 students in the school. Otherwise, please combine Grade 3 students into one booking or book two programs. Programs fees and transportation are paid for by the Saskatoon Board of Education.
- Regional Schools - Program fees are $53.00 per visit. Transportation is the responsibility of the school.
- Limits for each division are as follows:
Catholic - Fall (20), Winter (10), Spring (27)
Public - Fall (20), Winter (20), Spring (20)
Regional - Fall (3), Winter (3), Spring (3)
