News Release - Highlights of the Meewasin Board Meeting, February 5, 2010

- Meewasin approved the following:
- An application to construct a replacement for the seasonal skating warm-up facility within Kiwanis Memorial Park.
The project includes three distinct elements: a permanent structure housing washroom facilities and service connections; a mobile, seasonal skating lodge; and trail enhancements to improve barrier-free access to the skating program and within the park year round. Construction will begin off-site immediately, with site improvements to commence in the late spring. - An application to construct a River Garden and Tributary as described in the concept plan for the Riverfront at River Landing.
The site is located on the west side of the river immediately east of the Senator Sid Buckwold Bridge running from the river back to 19th Street. The area will see some general clean up and plantings as well as a water feature. An important additional feature will be improved fish habitat. - An application from the City of Saskatoon to approve the Victoria Park Master Plan.
The plan includes a natural extension of River Landing Phase 2 through new pathways, improvements to site amenities such as seating nodes, viewpoints, public art, interpretive signage, directional and park signs, electrical and water hook ups to support festivals and events, and accommodation for the extension of the Spadina promenade, some minor parking improvements, retention of heritage trees and other heritage features of the former Gardener’s site including a public garden, and picnicking opportunities.
