News Release - Highlights of the Meewasin Board Meeting March 5, 2010

- Meewasin approved the application from the University of Saskatchewan to construct the final phase of an expansion project at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine including renovations to the Diagnostics Lab and site landscaping.
- Meewasin received the capital and operating costs budget for the Year Ending March 31, 2011. Highlights include:
Development
- Riverfront River Landing Phase I: complete the 19th Street link to the Meewasin Trail improving the water feature area water quality for fish habitat and providing the necessary infrastructure for future water features anticipated in the concept plan, install entrance signs;
- Riverfront River Landing Phase II: continue managing the project on behalf of the City of Saskatoon, linking the Farmers Market and Isinger Park along Avenue B to the Meewasin Trail, developing retaining walls and shrub beds along the Spadina Crescent Farmer’s Market promenade connection to Riverfront Phase I;
- Develop a new Skaters’ Lodge in Kiwanis Memorial Park including a permanent washroom, all accessible link from Spadina to the Meewasin Trail, and a portable Skaters’ Lodge;
- Reconnect and remediate the Meewasin Trail on the riverbank (south side) of the Water Treatment Plant to the SaskPower Trail connection to Holiday Park,
- Redevelop the Beaver Creek Conservation Area Beaver Room exhibit,
- Reclaim and restore the Mendel shoreline that used to be a snow dump;
- Meewasin Trail improvements including assessment, mapping, sightlines and signage;
- Continue to install trees, benches, bricks and other amenities to keep the Meewasin Trail user friendly.
Conservation
- Consolidate the Meewasin Development Plan, sustainability policy, other planning projects;
- Implement resource management plans including: The Saskatoon Natural Grasslands, Cranberry Flats, Beaver Creek Conservation Area, Guenther Prairie, Regional Psychiatric Centre Prairie, Maple Grove, Yorath Island and the San Site;
- Continue with a grasslands conservation program;
