News Release - Meewasin's Dedication Ceremony
June 18, 2010
Meewasin's 24th Dedication Ceremony will be held Saturday, June 19th beginning at 1:00 p.m., in the bowl area at Innovation Place (15 Innovation Blvd). If weather conditions necessitate, it will move indoors to Silverspring School (610 Konihowski Road).
The late Ken Marland's "Songs of the Trees" CD will provide a prelude. The Chimo Chordsman will perform. Guest speakers include Master of Ceremonies Julie Janzen, Honourable Dr. Gordon Barnhart, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, Professor Robert Calder representing donors, Marcia Jackson representing recipients and Meewasin Chair Jack Vicq.
The Plant-A-Tree, Memorial Forest, Buy-A-Bench, and Buy-A-Brick programs are four of several successful fundraising activities at Meewasin. Donations are made for a number of reasons: weddings, graduations, births, anniversaries, birthdays, and in memory of those who have touched our lives.
Since 1988 Meewasin has planted 3616 trees and shrubs in the valley that have been sponsored by individual donors and groups. Since 2000 there have been 140 donations to the Memorial Forest in Gabriel Dumont Park. This year’s program includes sponsorship recognition of 98 trees and shrubs, 16 Meewasin Trail benches, 13 bricks at the Rotary International Peace Plaza and 11 bricks at the Riverfront.
